One of the key principles of the peer movement is the drive for social justice. As we enter the early days of summer in the month of June, there are three significant reminders of the importance of social justice: Pride, Juneteenth, and Flag Day. June is Pride Month, commemorating the Stonewall Uprising of 1969 and affirming and celebrating the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

Juneteenth is June 19, a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States when the final slaves were freed in 1865 due to the Emancipation Proclamation of two and a half years earlier, a large step in the march of civil rights for black Americans, a march that continues through the 1960’s to today.
Flag Day is June 14 and commemorates the adoption of the US Stars and Stripes, a flag that represents the sacrifices of a nation and the hopes of a society that values the dignity of every human, the recognition of human rights as a beginning place, and the protection of those rights.
Pier 360 values represent our continued pursuit of justice for all. We are committed to advocating for all people, especially when it comes to the individual rights of people with lived experience, being able to live self-determined lives.
This and every month, we stand with the continued pursuit of social justice for all.
