Innovation: A Word From Brad Berry

Twenty years.
March 2026 will mark my twentieth year as the Executive Director of Pier 360. It has been a remarkable experience, and it is because of the peers that have worked here and the peers that have actively engaged in their recovery, both past and present. The thing that has stood out for me through the years is just how creative and resourceful our peer community is when it comes to finding a way to get things done.
This is why innovation is one of our Core Values. Our values are not just ideals but reflect what is actually happening, and it is our team and participants that clearly represent those values. We have witnessed the application of fresh ideas and perspectives to solving issues or overcoming barriers in very practical ways. We have seen life made better by not accepting no and working to arrive at yes.
Pier 360 has identified innovation as a value because our community exhibits it through their creativity and resourcefulness.
As an organization, Pier 360 has been an innovator. Our organization has been and is a leader as a peer-run organization providing peer support services to thousands a year in a variety of ways and places. It hasn’t been easy, but we have innovatively challenged prevailing assumptions about our abilities by taking smart risks to achieve results.
We have found a way to get things done for and with our peer community.
Thanks for an amazing 20 years, and let’s keep innovating.
