One of the early transitions we made as an organization was to move from being guided by rules to being committed to values. About 20 years ago, we identified three that reflected who we were and were easy to remember as the Three R’s: Respect, Responsibility, and Recovery. We believed these values exemplified what we were about, and they supported our ongoing efforts to meet people where they are without requiring them to conform to a set of rules. This shift from rules to values gives our team members the opportunity to be who they are.

Respect and responsibility remain part of our core values, and they are behaviors and attitudes we demonstrate daily. We recognize the dignity of every human and treat them with unconditional positive regard. We acknowledge that we aren’t perfect in doing so, and we are willing to take responsibility when we are wrong. Our strength as an organization is our eagerness to apply our individual and collective strengths in any situation while maintaining our values. It is these values that support our ability to meet every person where they are.
